용돈을 조금씩 저축하는 친구들도 있고,
용돈을 받은 후 모두 써버려서 힘들게 하루하루를 보내는 친구도 있겠죠? ^^
오늘은 용돈! Pocket Money 에 관련된 표현을 알아보아요.

용돈 : pocket money, allowance
빚지다 : owe             돈을 갚다 : pay back
저축하다 : save
은행 : bank
계좌 : account
계좌번호 : account number
통장 : bankbook


	Tip 1 : 횟수를 나타내는 표현들 once : 한 번 twice : 두 번 three times : 세 번 세 번 부터는 숫자 뒤에 times를 붙이면 된답니다. four times, five times 처럼요. ex) I get allowance once a month. 나는 한 달에 한번 용돈을 받는다.

친구들은 용돈으로 얼마를 받나요?
How much money do you get for your allowance?
일주일에 ~를 받는다는 표현을 만들어 볼까요?

I get three thousand won a week for my allowance.
나는 일주일에 용돈으로 삼천원을 받는다.
My monthly allowance is twenty thousand won on average.

한달에 평균적으로 2만원을 용돈으로 받는다.

영어로 만(10,000) 이상을 표현할 때는 천 단위로 끊어서 사용한답니다.
그러니까

만(ten thousand) = 천이 열개

이만(20,000)은 twenty thousand

삼만(30,000)은 thirty thousand

사만(40,000)은 forty thousand

숫자를 표현할 때 ,를 찍는 위치에 맞게 말이지요.

그럼 용돈을 받다 부터 시작해서 용돈을 써버렸다 까지의 여러 표현을 익혀 봅시다.

I got my pocket money today.
오늘 용돈을 받았다.
I earn my pocket money by helping my parents.
부모님을 도와드려서 용돈을 번다.
I spent all my allowance.
용돈을 다 써버렸다.
I had to live on one thousand won for a week.
일주일 동안 천원으로 살아야 한다.
I asked Mom for more allowance.
But she said “No”
엄마에게 용돈을 더 달라고 말씀드렸지만 거절하셨다.

용돈이 부족했던 경험은 누구에게나 있을 거예요.
그러다보면 친구들에게 돈을 빌리기도 하고 빌려준 경험도 있겠지요?


	Tip 2 : (돈을)'빌리다' VS (돈을) '빌려주다' I borrow five hundred won from my friend. = 친구에게 오백원을 빌렸다. Sam-sick lent me five hundred won. = 삼식이가 오백원을 빌려주었다. Sam-sick borrowed five hundred won from me. = 삼식이가 나한테 오백원을 꾸어 주었다. 빌리다(borrow)와 빌려 주다(lend)는 비슷한 표현이지만 다른 단어를 사용한다는 점 잊지 마세요.

친구에게 돈을 빌렸을 때는 되도록 빨리 같아야 겠지요?

I promised him that I would pay it back soon. 곧 갚겠다고 약속 했다.
I said that I would return in a week. 일주일 안에 갚겠다고 말했다.
I paid back as soon as possible. 나는 가능한 빨리 돈을 갚았다.

I went to the bank today.
오늘 은행에 갔다.
I opened an account with the bank.
오늘 예금 계좌를 개설했다. (통장을 만들었다)
I deposit five thousand won in the bank.
오천원을 예금했다.

그럼 오늘 배운 표현을 정리해 볼까요?
