Can you tell the difference between a plant and an animal?
Do plants have mouths? Can they eat things?
Plants don¡¯t have mouths because they can take in their food in a different way.
Most green plants have roots to take in water from the ground.
They have leaves that take in sunlight and use it to make food.
Animals can move. But plants usually don¡¯t move.

Most green plants have underground roots.
The roots hold the plants in the ground and take in nutrients and water.
Some roots are swollen and contain food.
Roots grow down because of gravity.
Carrots and turnips are kinds of roots.

leaves (ÀÙ)
Leaves are making food of green plants.
Leaves come in many different shapes and sizes.
Leaves are made to catch light and have opening to allow water and air to come and go.
Veins carry water and nutrients within the leaf.
Leaves are the site of the food making process called photosynthesis.

Flowers are important parts of the plant in making seeds. The female part is the pistil. The pistil is usually located in the center of the flower. The male parts are called stamens and usually surround the pistil.
